The Melbourne Fair - 31st July - 2nd August

Antique and Retro Warehouse where art, nature and extraordinary craftsmanship converge, this magnificent Chinese rosewood settee stands as a testament to the refined elegance of the late Qing Dynasty.

Dating to circa 1910, the finely carved faux bamboo frame showcases the exceptional skill of its maker, while the back is adorned with delicately carved panels of berries, leaves and flowers.

At its heart is a breathtaking Dali marble dream stone panel from the Cangshan Mountains of Yunnan Province. Revered for centuries, this rare metamorphic stone is celebrated for its naturally occurring patterns that resemble atmospheric Chinese ink landscape paintings.

No two dream stones are ever alike, making each piece a unique work of art created by nature over millions of years.

Above the marble, an exquisitely pierced vine with flowering branches crowns the back, while matching openwork carving continues across the faux bamboo arms and elegant cabriole legs.

Rich in symbolism and remarkable in execution, this exceptional settee is far more than a piece of furniture, it is a sculptural expression of Chinese artistry and timeless design.

Discover this remarkable piece at The Melbourne Fair, where more than 60 of Australia's leading dealers present thousands of exceptional treasures spanning antiques, fine art, jewellery, decorative arts, vintage fashion and Mid-Century design.

Beyond the exhibits, enjoy fashion parades, expert talks and inspiring presentations celebrating craftsmanship and collecting.
